4066: Empowered Day 7

The most important thing for me when I’m painting is focus. So when I’ve had a night like last night where I didn’t get a lot of sleep I know that I’m not going to have a lot of focus.

Focus is what allows me to paint as well as I can, or the best that I can.

But I’ve learned that if I don’t pay attention to my lack of focus, that I will end up screwing up more than I create.

So what I do is recognize my lack of focus, and then work on something within the painting that doesn’t take a lot of focus.

For example, working on a portrait or a hand takes a lot of focus, but working on a background with little detail doesn’t take a lot of focus.

On days like today I recognize where I’m at and I choose to work on a section of the painting that matches what I’m capable of.

I worked on some of the easier parts of the background and just blocking in a lot of color. I’m still making progress, still doing something I need to do anyways, but I’m not screwing up anything.
