I’m going to need to get out my gouache set. Craig Mullins suggested to use gouache for these studies to help avoid any blending.

A deep understanding of the fundamentals and of different art movements and what they are doing and why. With this understanding we can use those methods, mix and match those methods, to serve the image we are trying to create. From painting to painting you can pick and choose from a wealth of methods that will communicate the idea better.
