3084: Rajiv One Abandoned

I really dislike this painting. it’s not going well at all.

But I am going to try and use this session to play with the painting and figured out why it’s not going well and why I hate it.

The first thing I did was simplify the entire painting with some values that I felt were very close to the light and shadow areas. Only after I changed the value of the background to be closer to the image, did I really see any improvement in the painting.

I could work on this painting for a lot longer and get it to look exactly like the photo but after simplifying it I realized that it’s essential failure is the composition. It’s boring, uninteresting, and the figure has some shadows across the face that would just take too long to make read right.

Overall I don’t feel like this painting is worth the effort so I’m going to paint over the whole thing with a gray tone and get the canvas ready for something else later on.
