3078: Not Enough Variation

Another very productive day on this painting and everywhere else.

The first thing I did today for the paper triangle painting was begin mixing up some of the darkest darks. I’m constantly reminded while I’m checking these colors for perfect accuracy how wrong my initial perception of the color is. If I was going to mix this as I saw it, with a hunt and peck technique, that the color would be way off and spend much more time adjusting than I would focusing on form and brush work.

I accomplished a lot on this painting today. But, I don’t like the colors I mixed up. Honestly they are very close to what I see in the original but there is no variation. The colors only shift from dark to light in the same hue. I’ll continue with the colors I made and use these next session to set up a base layer of local color with great values. Then in a later session I will add in interest with more color variations.
